Small Random Acts of Kindness

Small Acts of Kindness

Each month, our office completes a service project. Recently, our owner gave each employee $100 to brighten someone’s day. Our job was to carry out small acts of kindness. I chose to pick up the restaurant check for a family. I also sent nonperishable goods to Houston to help with the hurricane relief effort.

On a Saturday afternoon, I visited an Eat n Park to enjoy the soup and salad bar. I also ended up getting a Superburger… but enough about me. While I was there, I saw a mother and two young children sitting in a booth. I passed them numerous times on the way to replenish my plate from the salad bar.

The young boys seemed to be having a good time. They colored, laughed, and even danced around the area by their booth. However, their mother did not seem as amused as I was! On the way out, I was lucky enough to receive a high five from one of the boys. That high five was icing on the cake. I ended up picking up their check for them.

In trying to decide what to do with the remaining money, I consulted with my sister. She happens to be one of the most caring people in the world. I am grateful that puts up with me for unknown reasons! When I checked, she informed me that Monte Cello’s Restaurant was collecting nonperishable goods for the relief effort in Houston.

Evidently, the local pizza restaurant struck a deal with a friend who owns a trucking company. Monte Cellos will fill up a tractor-trailer with supplies. After that, the trucking company will deliver it to a fire company in Texas. After watching the devastating damage on the news, I decided to buy supplies to send on the truck. I dropped off water, canned goods, clothes, cleaning supplies, and pet food.

Such small things we take for granted can be monumental for others. Small acts of kindness can go a long way and helping others is something that we should all try to practice on a daily basis.
